Curious how you will secure the timber to the axle. Looks like the axle just sits in the hub wood or do you plan on making a metal tube for it to bear on? What diameter is your black iron pipe? Very much interested in following your build & really appreciate you taking the time to share. Might be easier to find & follow as you go along if it was in one thread. Thanks!

thank you point well taken will do that. wood screws are run thru the bottom of 1'' gas pipe 2'' from the end of the hub up into the oak, will put two more in the center after trail is fabricated and attached. will also put some JB weld in the channel in 3 spots to assist with taking stress off screws during recoil. everything is all about recoil..

So you are going to epoxy the axle to the timber. Very much want to see how you do that. I use epoxy type bedding very often, but not certain how it would be applied to the axle. Are you just bedding the axle to the channel in the timber much like one would bed a rifle barreled action to a stock?

exactly that. the channel is a tad wider than the pipe so it would bed really good, I think. it really would beef it up, I have a tendency to over build at times

Started on the trail, laminated oak to get the angle. Dadoed the trail to fit over axle. Fabricating the braces to hold trail to axle. One single hole in the center to screw up through axle into wood. Whew!!

Like the way you used the axle to trail metal brackets to also secure the axle pipe. Looks like your trail is 4" x 3" & your wood axle piece is 3' x 3", is that correct?

That’s fairly close on measurements . 1/4” plus or minus I used what oak I had. Will add some more oak to the trail to get me the width I need for the barrel

Next traumatic step, making the towing ring. I used a straight Clovis. I know there are better ways but oh well I did this, and made easy lynch pins

What keeps the clevis from being pulled out of the trail?
I wish I knew. Well I used job weld to hold in correct position, when I put too steel plate on top I will drill self drilling metal screws through plate into Clovis on both sides then grind off heads do it will be pinned. If not satisfied will drill into side of oak trail through Clevis to pin it
