I just picked this rifle up at a local gun store yesterday, it’s in very good shape. There is not a single makers mark to be found. I have it completely disassembled to clean and oil it. The locks function perfectly. The trigger is going to need a little help. The smooth barrel measures .578. The rifled barrel has 5 lands and grooves, I can get a .36 cal jag down the barrel without a patch. Im soaking the nipples so I can remove them. Id love any information you can offer on the rifle.

I’m soaking the barrel in atf/acetone so I can remove the nipples. Yesterday I was able to work on the rifled barrel with a little steel wool on a jag. The barrel had a lot of crud in it, it’s going to clean up well. The smooth barrel has a little surface rust the first couple inches from the bore, the rest is very clean. I think the trigger is missing a spring. I’m going to probably get some better photos posted of the trigger so you can see what it looks like. Would you pull the patches out of the patch box? They are a mess but pretty cool that they are in there. I intend on shooting this, unless you see reason I should not. I’d love some suggestions for a load and patch/cards for a 24 bore so I can gather what’s needed. I have lots of shot for shot shell reloading.

Combination guns are quite a rarity in thee USA, but not so in the former British Empire, where they were known as Cape guns, from their popular usage in Sarth Efrica. It's a real pity that your photos - when viewed - are about the same size as they appear on the page. Is there any way you can take them on a camera, so that we call all share the details?

I will have my wife help me with the photo this evening. Thank you for taking interest in this rifle.

This type of combination gun was fairly common in the Northeast US ( in parts of New York State they were sometimes called "Adirondack rifles"). Several New York and Pennsylvania gunmakers stamped their name on them, but many smaller gunmakers did not mark them. As they were assembled with commercial parts in quite a few states, identifying the builder of unmarked guns is virtually impossible. Attached is a typical side by side combination gun by Nelson Lewis of Troy, NY, who made many of them. This photo shows the type of lollipop tang sight that was often used ( your gun has the tang hole for one). Although I focus my collection on the over under barrel configuration, I do own a few side by side barrel type combination guns such as yours. They are versatile guns that are fun to shoot, so clean yours up. and enjoy!

I got tired of splitting and stacking firewood so I worked on the trigger this evening. The set trigger was broken, so I traced it out on some 3/16 plate I have and got after it. I have never made a trigger before, but to my surprise it fits and works perfectly. I partially assembled the rifle to check function with both locks and I’m good to go. Question is, should I harden the new set trigger? I don’t know if the main trigger is hardened or not? would a pass with a file prove this? The nipples are still not budging so tomorrow I’m gonna grind a tool from a socket and get em hot With a torch if I have time. How should I finish the new trigger?

Prolly too late to ask, but is it loaded? Many older guns, left hanging around for years, CAN be, as we found out in a local pub back in 2000. Litting up a torch on a loaded breech can cause all kinds of unwanted surprises.
