Very nice! I like the aging and color vey well done!. the squirrels an rabbits better watch out!, and maybe the deer also if allowed.

I started this build in May and with the help of a good friend have almost completed it. I copied it from an original that my friend had due to the fact that I really like the architecture. The butt plate is from the original, the barrel is a Douglas 40 inch 40 cal. The lock is a late Ketland from Chambers. Front sights, lockplate, toe plate and the rear sights are all hand made. I've never seen another like this and really like the way it shoulders.. I'll try and get more pictures soon. Any comments are welcome..keep in mind this is my first build..so go easy fellers! http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l610/fourwheelhorseman1/1022141827.jpg http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l610/fourwheelhorseman1/0930141805a.jpg
Here ya go Black Hills Bob...

My first rifle was made with a book that had plans and it came out fat and thick. My next was thin and slim with nice carving and I still have it. I had no real tools back then and I stood on planks with a hand saw. Then I bought a band saw and Kindig's book.
You did it right and have a piece to be proud of. My greatest gun has a swamped barrel, took two weeks just to bed the barrel. There is a line of friends waiting for me to pass so they can buy my rifles.

You really captured the ambiance on the cheek piece area, it has that simple yet elegant style reminiscent of a piece of fine furniture. I believe you have a great start, we will look forward to your future victories with anticipation, I see no flies. George.

That is a beautiful rifle. I built one from a kit many years ago and it doesn't even approach the physical appearance of the rifle that you made. Be proud, it's a beaut.

Hi,
You captured the essence of that original gun very well. Well done on great rifle and as a first from a blank, very impressive.
