This started out to be easy but didn’t count on the hardness of the Cold Steel hawk. Took me way too many hours to get here and still not there. I may just let it rust over then finish it. If I had to do it over I wouldn’t! Thanks for looking. Texas Gil

I have that same hawk head and the spiked hawk, both from Cold Steel. It was a bear to get that black finish off. Taking a break from working on them…

I got the proper sized screw and filled the threaded hole on the side of the eye. I peeled down the screw and just filed it. Almost invisible now.

If you get a chance, look at Shiloh 66 (?)’s tomahawks. Search his name for his postings. Hopefully he will chime in here. :thumb:

Don’t think I’ll try this again. I was using files and a hacksaw. It was like trying to file a hardened frizzen. Wasn’t worth the pain as the song goes. Probably would have been ok with a cast head. I was trying to duplicate a pipe hawk i had seen online. I guess it would pass the 10 ft test but it’s rough up close. Maybe one day I’ll put the finishing touch to it but no time soon! Thanks for checking it out and the comments. Happy Turkey day!
