Hey guys, that includes gals as well, what purpose is the small hole in the cone of my musket nipple, picture included. I can guess but would prefer to get a right answer from someone who knows.
Thanks

I always thought those holes were escape holes.

So the gases could go out the holes instead of driving the hammer backwards after the main charge detonated.

Looking forward to seeing more answers.

While listening to K.M. lose a 12th vote.

It’s made as a vent. The sparks are supposed to go to the powder rather then the whole flash.
Now the argument can start.
Thanks, that’s what I figured. I have a replacement TRESO made from AMPCO alloy that doesn’t have the vent.
I’d be interested in hearing the yea’s and nay’s on its value. Guys, argue away…😉
