First of all, thanks to everyone who keeps this forum alive. Much appreciated. I recently inherited this old musket from my father. We had always referred to it as "the civil war musket", but in truth none of us seemed to know where it originated. I've searched the web trying to find something similar but have had no luck. This is partly because almost all markings on the gun have long since corroded away, with a couple exceptions. It is in pretty bad shape, so I'm not not really interested in its value, I'd just to get a sense of the era it was used in. Attached are some pictures I hope will be helpful, including what's left of two marks that may provide a clue. What I find curious is that the mechanism appears very crude and plain, compared to the more "ornate" ones that pop up on the web.
