Good morning all y’all!
Attached are pictures of what was told to me of an original Mortimer fowling piece.
if any of you can make more of an identification, please help.
It is in beautiful condition, some engraving of flying birds and scroll work. I think someone oil finished the stock but the action appears original and still works as expected. The only markings I’ve found are Mortimer on the side lock with flying birds.
This was a gift from my late friend and is very special to me.

Take of the barrel and look at the proof marks if Birmingham it could be Thomas Elsworth Mortimer the Scottish Gunmaker who had a shop in Edinburgh and also London .There were several Mortimer families working in London but most were flintlock and early percussion period . Your gun is much later and looks Birmingham made with the name Mortimer on the back action lock.it could be a ironmongers gun

I have done as you suggested and found the following; on the base of the breech, two proof marks -1 a crown with a V between crossed staffs-The 2nd Crown & crossed staffs with BPC- these two I believe indicate Birmingham 1813-1904. There also is on the top flat of the breech London in fancy scroll and just barely visible. Under the breech there are three cut notches and above that a mark looking like an old English U. The side lock is simply engraved MORTIMER with scroll work and flying birds. Scroll work is also on trigger guard, but plate, etc.(see attached pictures)
