I am currently awaiting the delivery of a Manton SxS shotgun that I have purchased. I will take it to a recommended gunsmith to have it examined to determine if I can shoot it. I hope that I can take it to the range, what an experience since this is my first black powder weapon. Does anyone have any advice for a beginner?

Welcome to the hooby of muzzle loading firearms. Welcome to the Forum.

Tell us more. Gauge, locks, barrel length?

Keep loads to the light side of your shotgun's gauge. Get a working rod to use for loading and cleaning. Look for the tools you will need, such as properly fitting screwdrivers.

If your Manton sxs is a flintlock, find a reliable source of real blackpowder, GOEX 2fg, and a good selection of flints.

Do a lot of reading on this forum.

Prepare to enjoy shooting your Manton sxs.
