Most factories use one thickness RR (3/8") to fit all calibers from .40cal through .54cal, although IDK about .58cal & up. (5/16" for a .32cal)

The lengths, obviously, vary with barrel length

I have found that many of the European ram rods that come with their guns are 9mm in diameter. So if your thimbles are tight, a 3/8" ram rod may not fit them. TOW has 9mm ram rods. The standards seem to be 5/16" for 40 cal and below, 3/8" for 45-54, and 1/2" for some .54's and 58. One of my .32's has 1/4" ram rod. I have to be real careful loading with that wimpy rod, but a larger diameter rod will not fit in the thimbles.

While some may be 3/8, most I have worked on are 9 mm. Which is close enough the thimbles can be reamed out to .378 which is right for a 3/8. I made a .378 reamer which fits into a 10/32 female thread so I can ream out the 9 mm thimbles using the ramrod.

There were a couple of higher readings that went up to 9.8 mm but only in a couple of places on the rods.
