Your not the first one to get one like your's. Lyman's quality control has gone way down hill. I'am not even sure if the stocks are walnut anymore or just stained because a guy was trying to put a 57 peep sight on and took some wood off and then had to try to find a stain that would match up.

i hope they replace it with a better one... you can see marks on the stock from the barrel is too tight...

got a few more picture's

The Lyman ad for the Deerstalker says it has a "handsome hardwood stock", not a "walnut stock".
The gun in the photos has a Beechwood stock that has been stained with a walnut stain. If there is any sanding done on it, expect to see blond wood that will need re-staining.

What a shame.I was keepin my eye out for a NIB or low use DeerStalker.Unless it,s an older one I would not buy one without seein it in person first.

It surprising what can happen to quality control when management changes. I bought a Lyman deerstalker 15 years ago and it was really a very nice Flintlock. After this many years I have no complaint, might be a little hard on flints but I'm not a quantity shooter, even when I hunted with modern stuff, I didn't have thousands of rounds under my belt. Maybe in 22 shells. It seems like during my time of growing-up, ammunition was expensive, but money was scarce, And yes I got over the need to limit out every time I bought a deer tag or a bird license when I was fairly young. Actually, unused deer, antelope, and elk tags make pretty nice Christmas tree ornaments.

cost 37$ too send it back .. how can you go about fixing the tang begin inlet that deep?? glass bed the tang will that fix it?? the woman i talked too was saying there is nothing they can do about it..

I would think they would just replace the stock.Lyman has really hit new lows.I remember when they really used to take care of their customers.Chargin you to send it back is a major slap in the face.Make them reimburse you. They should have sent you a prepaid shippin label and a box.

Doesn't Lyman understand what it costs them when a dissatisfied customer has access to thousands of people via social media and is able to show the poor quality of their work to a discriminating group? It takes thousands of dollars of advertising to overcome their poor response to one customer.

it be the last one i buy.. called a few pawn shops see if they had a used one .. my local dealer cannot get one none in stock.. got that one from grafs and sons. lyman needs to call investarms and raise hell..

Seen one in a gunshow today that had a $395 price tag.I didn,t pick it up cause I wasn,t goin to spend nearly what they wanted for it.I had a drop in bore light with me but didn,t even bother. The tang wasn,t recessed though. If it was clean and not weathered some I probably would have checked it out closer.
