Over the weekend I attended a local shoot, and was able to shoot my T/C New Englander side by side with a 50 caliber T/C Hawkens. I really liked the feel of the Hawken compared to my New Englander, and said as such to one of my 4-H volunteers. Never one to miss an opportunity, he said he might have something for me.

Yesterday I received an email from him stating that he'd be willing to part with a couple of his T/C Renegades, and would bring them to our next 4-H meeting. The one that is really tempting me is a 54 caliber Renegade with an additional Green Mountain 20 gauge barrel. He also has a Renegade with 56 caliber Smoothbore Barrel, but I'd like to stay with a rifle. I have a 50 and 12 gauge barrel for my New Englander, and I like being able to have 2 guns in one.

What is everyone's experience with the 54 caliber Renegade, and has anyone shot one with a 20 gauge barrel? I trust my friend totally, and I know he wants to put me into something that I like, even if it means not buying one from him.

The Renegade is a less expensive version of the Hawken. My preferred calibre is the big .54…such an efficient and effective calibre.

As to the Renegade, I haven’t shot the 20 gauge barrel, but I have hunted with the .56 calibre smoothbore.

Wonderful gun…actually should say…wonderful guns. There’s a reason that T/C was a major muzzleloader manufacturer, back in the day.

The serious competitive shooters, back in the day, tended to opt for the T/C Hawken with the drop in 32” replacement barrel.
