Recieved this hand forged straight razor in the mail yesterday from my son. It is a Rev War style. Someone had sharpened it already. So I put it on the strop and had a go with it this morning. Shaved great!

Wow! That is very nice. I had never given a thought to the act of shaving back then. In another thread, the issue of "beards" arose and I found that very interesting.
Thanks much for posting this, I like it.

Wow, that is neat. Do you know if there is a pattern out there? Or @ dimensions? This looks a lot better than one I saw on another thread which was a simple wedge, but purported to be a razor. This looks to have a hollow grind consistent with a razor.

I don't know of any patterns. The blade is 1 1/8" and the handle is 3 5/8" . I Nuemans book he shows wedge shaped. And I understand it even though they look like a modern razor the wider the blade the older it is.

Jerry,
Love the simplicity of the piece!
I'm partial to that blade style.
I've seen it offered but can't remember where.
Always wanted learn how to shave with one like my Grandpa did but I would need a lesson or I would need stitches!!

Formidable! And appears double-edged, from the photo. Looks like it could shave a porcupine! But it is a great gift, and from your Son, and you have already proven its worth to your own satisfaction. I am happy for you.
