Does anyone leave their jag on their ramrod while shooting? Does it get on the way sticking past the barrel?

I usually Leave my jag on the ram rod but it does give a couple of issues. It isn't as easy to cut the patch at the muzzle. It also usually keeps the short starter from going as far into the barrel.
On the plus side, the jag gives a little more length to hang on to when pulling the ram rod out of the barrel.

I don't cut at the muzzle or use a starter so sounds like I'm golden.

Usta always have a longer type jag on my ramrod , liked it as it gave me more length to extract the rod in competition. Usta use one of the shorty jags hunting , because debris would sometimes catch on the longer r/r jag.

I leave a short button jag on mine. Then I always know I have the right caliber jag with the correct threads. I shoot maxis and never found it to be on my way.
I was just looking into button jags. I'll go with one of them instead but for now I have this one.

I do as you showed RedBear, where it sticks out a good 1/2” or better and I always take the shot with it as shown, as that provides for great ‘consistent’ practice for how I will shoot it in my offhand competition shooting events.

It doesn’t seem to hurt my offhand groups at all, this one @ 25-30-yards for 5-shots and I placed 1st at the NE Flintlock Championship, @ 100-yards, whilst doing so too, 5-shots there too.
