I have a jukar spain .45 cal kentucky rifle. I was hoping someone could suggest a load to just put holes in paper a 50 yards and a load to take a deer using patched run ball.

The old rule of thumb is caliber equals number of grains. .45 caliber = 45 grains, .50 caliber = 50 grains, etc.

Using 40 grains of 2f or 3f is a good target load that saves powder too.

my boy's 45 jukar barrel likes a 440 ball .015 patch and 40 grain fff target and 55 grain fff hunting, over 55 grain fff and accuracy goes down hill.

20 to 40 grs for target. 50 to 60grs for deer. Shot two deer with a .45 round ball. Ball on both deer completely penetrated the deer and kept going. Broadside shots in the lungs. Both shots were .440" balls pushed by 60grs of Goex ffg. One was at 10 yards+/- . The other was 50ish yards. I would keep shots to 75 yards or less.

Btw- I have found that Spanish barrels can be very accurate barrels.
