First muzzleloader in the 70's was a Japanese .45 percussion.
Now my only flinter long rifle is a really .46 so it shoots revolver ball.

THE .45...........Used to shoot knock down steel targets in competition , off hand , out to 200 yds. My .50 , 44" , Getz barreled long rifle was getting a little worn , so made up a 36" , 7/8" barreled half stock rifle that was accurate to a fault. All was well except for the cub bear knock down @ 200 yds. The .50 would put the bear down every time no matter where the bear was hit. However , the 123 gr. ball in the .45 had to be placed in the upper 1/3 of the bear's body for a knock down. Also , the wind blew the 123 gr. ball around some. ...............oldwood

I have a .45 I like a lot. It's very accurate. But I have a .58 that's even more accurate. I like it a lot. Wait, I have a bushel of .40s. I like them a lot and they are real accurate. I have a .36 but I don't shoot it because it's obsolete. I read that here on the forum. I have some .50s too. I love those. I have two .54s but one hammers my cheek when I shoot it, but it looks cool and was custom made by my long gone shooting pard for my other long gone shooting pard. So I just like to look at it. The other .54 is a flintlock but I have not shot it yet. One of these days. Don't have a .62 or a .75, yet. Why have one caliber rifle? Have them all and be happy! :)

the trouble with London you get the Holts gun auction, oh so tempting to bid, look on google, I can only buy S58 wall hangers ( see obsolete list uk ). such is life in UK, so other than bsa Scorpio pcp air rifles for rabbits and squirrels that’s life at 78. No and you cannot hunt with a ML in WA. It’s unkind to animals. That includes crossbows etc. All my guns come from Holts I try to buy one a year for my collection? Prefer rusty ones as they are usually untouched not mucked around with. In previous
Holts times we got a couple guys from OZ to buy guns, One especially from NT claims to have been a big buff hunter killed thousands mate. Ha ha. Driving to MT Augusta in cousins brand new executive. Mondao His wife lost control hit a termite mound probably, a big bush caught us at 70 mph bent the car in two. Ha ha ha All ok. That’s the bush roads for you , got to give it to you the tiny rabbit sized roos Quackers ???? On Rotness island lovely to feed and cuddle. And the sailing ain’t so bad on Perth water. Of course the chicks on Perth City beach below are pretty cool

nice to chat mate wish. you well

I really like the profile of that piece at the top on the left wall.
Is it a smoothbore? The buttstock architecture looks like a perfect fit for me.

I realy cannot find the string on flints. But you guys might be interested. On a previous string I tried some ceramic turning bits which worked very well. I made a flint out of tool steel and nothing. Later I fixed a bit into one of my 1810 bess locks and again amazing I don’t have a flint problem as it’s everywhere in south England and I like flint napping arrow heads as well as flits. Been thinking outside the box again looking for an alternative where you guys cannot get flints. I cannot open my posted movies hope you can

Good day to you on a sunny cold morning 17 miles west of london. Suns nice and warm fox having breakfast I bought it off my brother 11 bore but 12 g wads fit. The lock has Paris on it ???? Just the name. Crown over CP London proofed so that puts it between 1800 and 2005. Not a lot of help on this occasion. ( Google English proof marks ). Probably 1840 not bad fine pits in bore I did not like the pit or corrosion at one point on the outside barrel hope It’s only surface. Original ramrod Unusual. Value £240-£350 just a basic working gun for a farmer yrs it was fired up in the 1970s I gave my brother £200 for it. It goes through my mind to make a rifled barrel for it. But I have so many projects on the go Anyway I cannot legally shoot it as police refused with me at 78 my shotgun S2 licence. But my brother still has an S2 So it could be shot on his S2 licence. Better. If I can sort out the French licence to carry then I can use it there a short hop across the channel. No licence needed for old and repro BP guns. In France Magic. It’s just this thing “ you have to have a reason to carry, In other words land to shoot on, a club of other. Strange laws I wish you well

So you have a .36 that really interests me. Guess it’s antique so you are gentle with it. I have three double rifles but not a muzzle loader , I just spend the kids inheritance, tough. Ha ha. Then I saw this .36 double ml at holts auction , had to have it, I bid and win £1600 at holts action the shock was buyers premium taking it to £2150. Oh **** as the cat says but the cost soon faded. Research showed it was probably a 1920s repro , holts said late 1850, By the midland gun company as it had their. “ Long range rifle company on it Birmingham “ stamped on it. “. Proof marks put it I recall 1904 to 1954 Tommy up
In main loves it. I love it Hope you love it 😋😋😋😋😋 Almost Mint condition unused I could not get caps so I made up some replacement holders for large pistol primers. Which had the bonus it will take nitro powders like R15. Interesting. It’s got around a 1/28” twist so it’s for bullets rather than ball. I made up some samples I have the book .

So is a .36 ok for deer. With a 155g bullet at 1900 ft / src and 900ftlbs of energy I should say it is. A little help with R15 and a 240 g bullet I have a .375 ML magnum. Ha ha ha. Had it 4 years and no S1 police licence to shoot it in uk. Does my head in. France is my only hope.

I wish you well. 😀😀😀😀😀. Ps my 50 yard garden range for pcp air rifle only.

oh you are one of those. Birthday presents for son David always “ ticket to Thailand” he likes Cosmo muni island and the chicks love him always phoning up “David David “ Usually 4am in morning. His mates said I have never seen David so happy at 20 years Three of them live there not for me though. I lived in Nigeria Lagos back 1978. You won’t want a white chick after. Er shall we say living there. Enough said Ha hah. I thought this was a ML forum but great change of subject I am
In great shape at 78’. I’ll say no more

I think that we're both on the same frequency mate.

And yet, the 45 is no longer offered in the low/medium cost rifle makers. It seems to be the 50 is king and the 54 for elk.

Yeah, it is near ideal. Unfortunately here, it is the minimum legal caliber for deer but not legal for squirrel hunting.
If such a fantasy place could be found with good hunting and the .45 being legal for squirrel, deer, and roundball for turkey,,,,, I can't think of anything better.
Until then, 20 gauge smoothbore is my only equally versatile option, but certainly not of equal economy.

Such a paradise did exist... South Dakota. Unfortunately the spring elitists pushed hard to get rid of rifle hunting in 2018, citing safety. As far as I can tell, SD hasn't had a turkey hunting accident in over 30 years. A request to appeal stalled in a 4-4 vote this year. Hopefully things will go back to the way they were soon.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't see any real restrictions on the fall turkey season though. Theoretically you could shoot squirrel, deer, and turkey all at the same time in late November, or all of December here with your 45 caliber rifle.

So you're saying there is more to South Dakota than a HOT conservative Governor?
Hmmm,,,, might be a consideration 🤔
