Just got done reading the " The Iron Brigade " by Rufus R. Dawes. Dawes began as a Pvt. in the 6 Wis. and ended up being its Col. One of the best first hand accounts of what it was like in battle and camp life during all the battles in the East. A lot of the writing is through letters to his girl friend and then wife. I have read many, many books on the war, I feel this is one of the best. Brought in on Amazon and read it on my kindle. If you are interested in Civil War I think you will enjoy this one.

The Iron Brigade and the Stonewall Brigade met at Brawner's Farm in August of 1862. Neither side would give ground and it's believed that one of every three men were wounded at least once.

The Iron Brigade and Stonewall boys met a few times. After the first day at Gettysburg the Iron Brigade was never the force it once was. Most of the 1861 boys were dead or shot up by then.
