That's what they said about the Passenger Pigeon, just sayin'
If I remember correctly the passenger pigeon became a commercial commodity and was no longer shot for sport or pest control. It was shot and trapped without restriction for it commercial value. I recall even it's feathers were used but don't quote me on that!

In recent years our laws have changed.
The wood pigeons can only be shot if damaging crops. Also game dealers no longer want birds shot with lead shot.

Where as the passenger was shot and trapped by everyone and his brother in the states there are only by comparison a few nuts like me shooting wood pigeon in the UK.
