I got my first. 62cal rifle

Well I went and met the guy who had the Isaac haines style .62 cal rifle. I also shot it off hand @ 30 yards...I seem to be hitting a tad right with 85 grains a 600 rb and pillow ticking. Can't wait to get her dialed in! BTW anyone know a guy named Mike keller? I think I will enjoy this new to me rifle.

Yes octagon to round and swamped 38in Not sure on the weight my guess is 8lbs I'll weigh it soon. The wood is very beautiful indeed

Just weighted it it came in at 8.806 it has a very good balance and comes quick to the shoulder.

I built two .62's for deer hunting in the Pa. . The first one was a Jaeger. 28" barrel .62.. 90gr , FFg. . Killed many deer with the gun. My eyes are extremely far sighted ,and eventually , I built a 38" brl. , longer barrel .62. Again , the sweet spot load was 90Gr. , FFg. That one was vastly better for my deer hunting adventures, due to the longer sighting plane suited my eyes better. As time rules , my older body couldn't handle the elevated recoil of the 2nd rifle , and though I loved it's performance , It was sold , as well. The longer barrel .62 shot flat enough out to 200 yds , I was able to hit a doe , firing from a rest , in an open field at 200 yds. The hold was front sight at the top of her ears . As I fired she took a step , and the ball whistled into her neck. Instant death. ...........oldwood

O aperto era frontal no topo de suas orelhas. Quando eu atirei, ela deu um passo e a bola assobiou em seu pescoço. Morte instantanea. .........

I'm with you Oldwood, father time has also eliminated me from hunting.
Back in my 20s I was fortunate to purchase an original big bore Jaeger with a typical swamped barrel & mint bore & a tack driver. It's .70 cal. bore with deep rifling & one turn in the length of its barrel only required 80gr of 2f made recoil pretty comfortable.
My first season of hunting deer & elk in Idaho's back country convinced me to make this 7.5 lb. well balanced , accurate rifle my primary hunting & competition rifle.
Seems a bit unfair that we wear-out at 70-80 & well made 200 yr old firearms are still going strong.

Pulled the barrel to confirm that it is a Rice barrel with a 1:66 twist and round bottom rifling. Since I pulled the barrel I decided to go ahead and brown it.

Hmmm I have been using a .600 RB and .018 blue pillow ticking patch it loads pretty easy no short starter needed.

I also say what a beautiful rifle. I have flirted with a 62 rifled barrel for my flint fowler. My smoothie seems to get the better of me most of the time. I get along with my rifles just fine ... 45 thru 58.
