Just found this link today and see that we have it in our own links section already. This is a great site. It has among other things the "Artillerist's Manual" by Brig.-Gen John Gibbon. 604 pages of period info from gunpowder to theory of fire to taking care of your draft animals. There does not seem to be a direct link into the manual but I found it by searching on manual. I'm still working on my bridge jack mortar. The locking ring is really stuck in there! Will start to apply heat and if that doesn't work abrasive saws. Big banks and flashes to everyone. Gotta go thunder storm is starting to flash/bang! GC
