Hi Guys,
Finished up the velocity testing:
(Patched RB & Pyrodex P)
55gr - 826fps
60gr - 843fps
Our informal penetration test:
60gr Pyrodex PRB shot completely through 3" diameter (green wood) Spruce tree from 2' distance.
Next shot did not completely penetrate a (green wood) Spruce tree of 5" diameter from the same distance.
Nevertheless, pretty fair performance for a (317gr) .62cal PRB and such a relatively small powder charge and short barrel. Sure beats trying to poke an adversary in the eye with a stick.
Recoil is moderate and easily controlled.
Next on the agenda, working up a load for #6 shot that will be capable of taking Grouse, Hare and Squirrel at 15 to 20 yards.
