I had known “Bear” for 30 years, first meeting him at the first Muzzle Shoot I attended in Berryville Arkansas in 1984. I knew of him through his employment at the Arkansas Crime Lab as the Chief Document Examiner.

Sat with him at his “camp” many times and learned much from him. He will be missed.

“He was a muzzleloader and loved to attend black powder matches and hunting with his flintlock rifles. Whenever you visited “Bear” and Cil you might find yourself throwing a tomahawk, grinding some corn, cooking in a Dutch oven or using one of his antique tools or forge. He loved to show young people how to use historical tools and items so that they too could feel the joy of doing things the way they were done in a simpler time.”

There was a fellow known a "Bear" in the 1980s who wandered the Levi Garret matches in an old
Toyota small motor home. His goal was to make all the Levi matches that year.

Any chance that was him?

He was a nice guy.
