How reasonable are current Old Army prices?

There's no contemporary percussion revolver tougher than a Ruger.

Did you ever hear the story about proof testing the model.

As I understand it, Bill Ruger and his corporate attorney, Steve Sanetti, were sitting around discussing the issue of how do you proof test the new Old Army model.

They decided to fill the chambers with Bullseye, seat a ball and at a safe distance fire her up.

The cylinder and barrel came through the Bullseye test with flying colors.

That's tough!

The one I have with the frame broken was fed 22 grains? Just saying they certainly CAN break and then (for a frame anyway) you are up the crik :idunno: Now dont get me wrong I love mine and wouldnt sell it for less than $600.00 (if I was selling it). But I ws there, it broke, they fixed it. Wont happen again though :shake:

IMO, the Bullseye story is just a myth.

I really doubt that Bill Ruger was that stupid.

Better, modern made revolvers chambered for magnum cartridges have blown up with just a double overload of Bullseye.
I've seen the results and it isn't pretty.

Old Bill was stupid enough to give Bill Clinton the idea that limiting a magazine to 10 rounds was a good way to fight crime. Now that, to me, is really stupid. :slap: :td:  :barf: :eek:ff

I had read the same thing about Bill loading it with Bullseye and using a 255 grn bullet fired remotely.

This wiki gives a reference to it:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruger_Old_Army

Anyone have this book? Single Action Sixguns by John Taffin.
Ihave the book and sure-nuf Taffin does state that Bill Ruger tested his Old Army with Bullseye

I've read that but never saw it in its original black n white.

Does it also say he loaded a 255 grn SWC backwards?

Thanks.

No - it only says that he used a round ball. You can read it if you enlarge the text (or have VERY good eyes) -- it's towards the bottom of page 151, left column, 3/4 of the way down :v .

So how does a person enlarge a phone and get it back into it's case????????????????

To answer the original question no the prices aren't reasonable and will most likely become even more unreasonable. My guess is in ten years you'll be saying something like "and I could have had it for only $600".

Remember nothing material in life is worth what you pay for it only what you can sell it for. I collect coins is it reasonable that a MS64 1879-S Morgan goes for $60 and a 1893-S for $300,000? Only in that there are so few of the latter around and a half million of the former.

Reasonable doesn't apply in this case. The main thing is if you keep it in good condition you can enjoy it and if you want to sell it 10 years down the road most likely get more than you paid for it.

I think the reference was to enlargement and Viagra though I never tried it myself

You take the blue pill silly.

What is a blue pill, I do not do drugs nor am I a drug addict?????

And perhaps not a heavy reader?

I believe that the reference is to a scene described in 'Alice in Wonderland' where the choice is between the "red pill" (which allows one to face the sometimes painful truth of reality) or the "blue pill" (which allows one to live in the blissful ignorance of illusion). "Take the blue pill, silly". :v

...and don't watch Disney movies.

I'm not a druggie either by the way.

*EDIT*

Apparently I don't know Disney movies all that well either as it was not a blue pill but a drink that made Alice shrink. So much for wit...

No it's not a good deal, I just purchased from traditions a pietta 1858 new army in stainless steel with adjustable rear sights, the target model and it was 399.00 on sale regular price about 70 dollars higher. Cabela's just had a sale where I purchased a blue steel 1858 new army for 199.00 now those are good deals for new in the box straight from the store. Now if you try to buy a used ruger old army 44 in stainless 6-900.00 is going to be the going rate and in my opinion not worth it the pietta is just as well built for what it's purpose is, a black powder revolver.. Happy Shopping

The standard Pietta and Uberti Remingtons aren't even in the same class as a Ruger. Apples to oranges...
