I watched "The Patriot" and Benjamin Martin didn't even look how much powder he was pouring. Neither did Hawkeye.
Methinks you're in way over your head...

Unless we're using the word "grains" as the individual particles in which case yes, they're volume.....
unless you weigh them. Then they're weight....right?

The number of “ granules “ per pound is infinitely variable and immaterial.
“ Grains “ are not granules and are important and widely recognized units of measure.

for a thread that most of us posted tongue in cheek drivel about, this one sure has a life of it's own.
i doubt anyone that has posted , doesn't know that grains refer to weight!
i could be wrong, so take this post with a grain of salt!
Would that be a grain of salt as in a 'weight' or as in a 'volume'? And what would that be equivalent to in FFF?

No, it actually comes from a grain of barley. It was the lowest measurement limit of the Apothecary, troy, and avoirdupoir weight systems. A grain is a teeny tiny bit less than 65mg.

So then you take the substance that you are using, and weigh that substance. Let's say you weight it and you get 90 grains on the scale. You then fashion a container to hold that material so that every time you get a level measure, if you then weighed the substance you'd find it weighs 90 grains. You then have a 90 grain measure for that particular substance. So change the substance and use the same measure..., you get a different weight.

Which is why if you weight out 90 grains of 3Fg black powder, and then make a measure to give you that for every level scoop of the powder..., you have a lot more grains of lead if you switch over and fill that measure for 90 grains of powder with lead shot.

Are you sure of what you say and what is written?
I don't think like that: for the last three days I have been counting grains, grain by grain, and with a magnifying glass I am well over 7000 grains, and I am far from reaching the pound... ☹

I have more important things to do ;-)))))
Damn! Just found a bag of "granulated sugar" in the larder!
