Mrs. Black Powder Maniac Shooter & I were asked to help with a group of home-schooled kids coming for a tour of ol' Washington Kentucky. These kids were from all over Kentucky for their monthly outing. I built a fire in Meffords Station, a log cabin built in the 1790's still standing. I told the students how families lived here in the 1790's. It was a fun day. The kids really loved holding that "old gun" as they called it.....

This post made me think about something I'd not put much thought into before, and that is organized field trips for groups of home schooled kids. Probably my misconception that they don't get "out of the house" but glad to see they do! Glad to see that you and your missus could pass on some traditional knowledge to these kids. :thumb:

Really cool! It takes someone with your personality and enthusiasm to really hold kids attention for something like that, they'll never forget that day!
Hope they remember it...I'm sure those boys will remember holding "that big 'o gun"....for their parents who were taking all those pictures. LOL

Great job. That is history as it should be taught .. oral and visual. I was honored to do that at a Christian school some years ago but did not have the log cabin … just my 16 foot teepee. That sort of learning sticks. Do it again folks. My hat [wolf] is off to you. Polecat
