My sons gave me a Richland arms flintlock pistol kit for Father’s Day. It looks to me like it needs very little work other than some sanding as the whole kits fits together nicely.

Granted, this is my first build ever so there's probably things I have to do but don't know how.

In particular I can’t figure out how this trigger guard can be made to fit. Does it need more inletting on the back (near the grip) so it will seat lower?

Here’s a video I made to show how the trigger guard doesn't quite line up.

You may need to inlet the trigger bar a little more. How does the trigger bar interact with the lock? May take a combination of inletting, filing and bending to get it right. On Pistol trigger guards, the back always goes into the stock first and then the front is lifted up to fit the stock. Many of these kits have the front of the trigger guard attach to the trigger bar as a convenience to assembly. A little bending is ok on the guard but not anything drastic. I have seen many a broken guard from folks trying to take it too far.
