First I am completely new to muzzle loading firearms. I have a Traditions St. Louis Hawken in .50 cal. The ramrod that was included has two different ends. One end is slightly flared and the other is slightly tapered. Tapered end goes through the thimbles, this I know. My question is which end is threaded 8-32 and which is 10-32. In addition, which end is used for a cleaning jag, the flared or tapered? Thanks for the help!!

Highly recommend you use a dedicated steel rod with a bore protector to clean with. A quick forum search will reveal a number of posts asking how to remove separated loading rod tips from the bore.

Save the loading rod for field use.

Don’t own a Traditions, but a quick perusal of their website shows 10-32 attachments.

Like biliff says use a steel rod and get an 8-32 & 10-32 adapter and try them on the threaded ends and you will have your answer.
Or just use some screws if you don't have adapters yet.

The bigger hole is 10-32, the smaller is 8-32. Flared end should be concave, that's the side used to seat the projectile. The tapered end gets the cleaning jag.

I kinda think that both ends are 10/32.
If you're gonna screw a jag on the ramrod, I'd use the tapered end as you can grip the flared end better with your fingers.
