The metal skate, chained to the field carriage which you can pop under the wheel and slide down hill. Stops the cannon over running the horses without wearing out the wheel rim.

I said it was called a drug bat, but apparently web searching has proven me wrong. After a couple of TIA's I am quite prepared to believe that my memory is fried, but, if not a drug bat, what is it? :idunno:
 
Nice to know I have at least one good brain cell left. Did you find a link? When I searched all I found was drugs, I must have read/seen it somewhere :shocked2:

I have a curious note to self which says, "CANNON: The word you are trying to remember is chaplets". I have forgotten that at least twice :rotf:
 
No links Robin. I remember My grandfather used the term when I was little. He spoke some Sussex dialect. I know a. Few words but like many other things it is slowly disappearing
