    Hello All,

I am a long time shooter of pistol, rifle and shotgun. Just started getting an interest in Black Powder. Not sure if it's for me yet, but I'm looking around.

Para, as you are a long time shooter, enjoying all types of firearms, I expect that you will indeed stick around here, succumbing to the romance and challenges of muzzleloaders and blackpowder. I don't expect that you will give up your modern guns, but they may see more shelf time.

Whatever the case, welcome to the Forum! You will find answers to your questions, as well as friends to share your joys and successes, and commiserate with your frustrations. :D

Thanks to all for the warm welcome. Ya, It's just a matter of time. I'm looking at the Pietta Colt 1851 Navy as a start.

Right on. My first was an 1858 44 cal then jumped to a Walker 47 next was the rifles and now going into flinters. A lot of variety with black powders.

I love it even when my daughter shot it at 12 yrs old but for the cons...
It is a heavy piece, not many want to lug around 5 pounds (approx) loaded.
Be careful of letting the load lever slam down as you are loading the round. Some folks have bent the stop and you have to use a "hair tie" or such to keep the lever from dropping down with firing.
Use #10 primers cause the recoil WILL loosen the other caps using #11s and fall off.
Other than that, load em and smoke em!

Had cousins from San Luis Obispo; Paso Robles is gorgeous! Super wine country! Can muzzleloaders use lead projectiles on designated shooting range in CA? I know it's banned for hunting.

Only lead free for hunting. Yes, we love it here. Moved here 6 years ago from Modesto.
