Been out of the BP world for a while. Still have my CVA .45 "long" gun. Haven't shot it in quite a while, but recently inspired by the purchase of a Cimarron (Uberti) Walker in "antique" finish. I haven't been this excited about a gun in a LONG time! Looking at another cheap CVA in .50 cal to hunt with (not "period" - yet anyway - maybe down the road a ways I might "doctor" it up to be closer to something seen on the western plains along about 1850 or so). Looking forward to reading more threads about shooting the older (70s/80s) reproduction guns. Been having a good time looking at the pictures on this forum. Some good laughs too from reading on here, lol. :)

    Cheers,
    Rodney

Thanks Kansas Jake! :) I think I'm gonna have to re-tap the nipple threads on the powder drum on that CVA that I bought - they are wallered out something fierce!

Those old threads were M6-1mm in size.
I don't recommend trying to retap them to a 1/4-28 thread because there won't be much of the new threads in the hole.

The 6mm diameter thread is .236 in diameter. The recommended tap drill for a 1/4-28 thread is .206 which will produce a thread that is .022 high.
If the 6mm thread is cleaned up or removed with a 6 mm drill the thread height of the 1/4-28 thread will have a thread height of only .007. Far less than the .022 height it is supposed to have.

You may need to go to a 5/16 dia thread to get 100% of the thread height it needs to keep the nipple from blowing out of the hole when the gun is fired.

With that said, this is not the place to be talking about it.
This area of the forum is for introductions, not for discussing technical questions.

Welcome from another Ozarks Arkie. Have you ever been to the Muzzle shoot at Luther Owens Park in Berryville. The fall shoot is coming up at the end of this month.

    Hi Randy,
I have never been to that one, but I've heard of it. Sounds like a really good one to go to. I've been meaning to get over toward Berryville ever since the beginning of summer, but never got around to it. Thanks for the welcome and the heads up about the shoot at Berryville. I'll look up the particulars and see if I can't make it over there.
