I am just testing the waters to see what anyone may have or want to sell / trade for, as far as a flintlock Hatfield.

Not looking for a Pedersoli, only an original Hatfield (pre 1983 I believe, but could be wrong). An original would not have any proof marks on the barrel and would not be marked Hatfield on the barrel from what I have read.

For some reason, I "need" one now.
Having both locks would be a plus, (percussion and flintlock as they could be had either way).
Prefer a .50, but a .32 would work also.

I was bidding on one (search here for my pics etc.) and I missed it by $10 I just found out.

I do have something that I have just very recently acquired that I may be willing to trade even up for one if that interests anyone... I do like "horse trading".
It is a "non-traditional" hand gun, bp, brass, and has the name Ruger in it, and never fired..... (too obvious?) heheh….

If not interested in a trade, I can spend "real" money for a nice, clean, functional Hatfield for the right price!

A lot of opinions on what is original and what is not. Some late "originals" may have Pedersoli barrels with the proofs filed off in an effort to cover up the source of the barrel. Just something to be a where of as it can greatly reduce the value. It may be worth asking for pictures of the underside of the barrel, before you make a purchase agreement.

Agreed.
I now know more about Hatfield's than I did 1.5 weeks ago, and appreciate the input.

It would appear that the Hatfield name is not on the barrel of originals, and they do not say "FOR BLACK POWDER ONLY", and, do not have proof marks.
This all began when Pedersoli took over production.

I am seriously looking for only "originals" from Ted Hatfield.
I like his story, and his style.

A Hatfield will be in my "collection" soon either from here, or an online auction, which I do not like to do, due to the fact I do not know the seller, and cannot see it in person most of the time..
The more I handle the Ruger, the more I hesitate to do any kind of horse trading.... Heheh.

Anything is for sale but my ROA is so over priced I wouldn't miss it! Not listed and not wanting to sell but like I said anything is for sale. I'd vote to keep the Ruger.

After only having it for less than 12 hours, I am seeing why you would not sell yours.
Mine is growing on me minute by minute, and not being a big handgun guy, I am itching to shoot his one for some reason.

Here's a pedersoli hatfield from internet.

Here's mine.
The pins in the lock are in different location on the pedersoli.
Rear sight is different then pedersoli
Seems pedersoli used a brass cap on stock at muzzle.
Mines nice, there's isnt......lol
Mine 1in70 twist

Interest they mention no forend cap.
They mention buckhorn sights.
Also that Missouri River Rifle changed some components when they bought the rights to the gun.
Go figure.......ruin a great AMERICAN rifle.

If you search for missouri river rifle works hatfield rifle, you'll see a forum with plenty pics of a early production Hatfield before pedersoli parts came into play. The gun is just like mine ABOVE.
The guy claims it's an all AMERICAN Hatfield rifle- parts included.....

I found one yesterday, (sadly a caplock as I really want a flint), on Track of the Wolf for sale, but it is listed with a "sale pending".
No price listed due to the sale pending.
Just curious how that works?
I see they have a 10 day time period for you to accept it, or return it, which is nice and probably why it says sale pending.

Can I make an assumption this was a USA build due to the nipple threads being 1/4-28 thread and only Hatfield and .50cal being stamped on the barrel?

I have put my name in "the hat" if the sale does not finish, but still really want a flint at this point.
Thanks again for all the input, and I am sure I will have a few other questions as time passes.

Be sure to look for that plum colored brown barrel finish.
Blued is not the gun.

It is not blued, and is plum colored.
Thanks for the tip on that.

From my searching and reading, I am sure learning quite a bit about a rifle I will probably never find the way I want it.
I also have to correct the title of this post...… I have yet to find a .32 Hatfield anywhere, they seem to all be .36cal in the squirrel range, not .32.

A shame really, as I already have a .32 Crockett that I love dearly, and would need to carry another size for a .36cal...
I know you can only shoot one at a time, but I will have .32, .36, .44, and .50 to store.... oh the problems we create.....
Heheh

I have been searching daily for over a couple of months now for an early Hatfield, and ran across a Pedersoli Blue Ridge that I am considering.
I guess I am opening up my "I want to buy" a bit today to include this particular rifle also.

Good price, (???) shot maybe 20 times, and since original Hatfield's are so danged hard to find for sale, I am considering it unless someone jumps in here with a Hatfield by next Wednesday.
He is including a suede fringed case, extra flints and extra liners.

Seller is another elderly gentleman like myself.... and is an experienced keeper / user of black powder firearms.

Read some reviews on the Pedersoli, and I find nothing but mostly good reviews on the newer factory ones other than they do not replicate any historic weapons well.

This one is 2 years old, plumb barrel, flintlock, and pretty local to me.

I am also considering my recently acquired, unfired, Ruger Old Army brass grip .45 circa. 1973 to be available in any deal I make for either a Hatfield or Pedersoli Blue Ridge.
I have no papers stating it was an original factory brass yet, so lets consider that also.
I will not fire it due to having 3 other .44's that are much less "valuable", and I am truly not a handgun shooter.

Opinions welcome, both good and bad, or pm me with what you have to sell.

This will be my last post here unless someone asks a question...…
Time to actually get one or the other, Wednesday approach-eth!!!.

Like I said before I had a Hatfield and never like it because of the lock, but other people love them. All I know is if your heart is set on a hatfield, and you get something else you will always be thinking and wishing you got a hatfield.
