Gun-stock wood

I just bought four gun-stock blanks of local craigslist, but have a couple of questions:

1. I'm not an experienced wood worker and am not sure of the types of wood that these are.

2. One (the fanciest one) has a bend, but it's pretty thick. Could I cut a piece straight through and not worry about any bend later on? [BTW, in the pics, the second from the bottom seems bent to the side, but it is actually the 3rd from the bottom that has the "wow" to it]

I'm thinking I could use these for half-stock rifles.

Both of those pictures are of the same thing, oh its not a blank either.

Looks like maple to me but I'm the least qualified person here to answer the question.

Looks like maple to me but I'm the least qualified person here to answer the question.

The bottom piece is black walnut, I think. The top three look too dark to be maple, unless the light is funny or they have been stained.

The second one from the top looks like English Walnut.

ya, I'm thinking they are all walnut, except I'm wondering if the top one could be myrtlewood. They have not been stained.

I bet if you showed them to a master carver or furniture maker he could identify the wood for ya.

Hi, if you live near a woodworking store like Woodcraft someone there can id the wood you. I think 1 and 3 are walnut, Good luck.
