Up for sale is a 1973 Mavi Hawken 45cal BP rifle. It is in good shape outside of the marks on the barrel from when someone took the breech plug out. There are no markings on the barrel showing the caliber. Price is $175 shipped within the lower 50. First I’ll take it followed by a PM to work out the payment details wins the sale.

Price drop from $275 to $175 due to barrel/breech misalignment. See post #8.

How about showing the marks on the barrel? Why did they need to remove the breech plug?

You can see the marking below the Mavi emblem. I can get a better pic later. Not sure why the took it apart, I bought this a couple years ago from a pawn shop and it’s been in my safe since.

After further inspection on this rifle, whoever took the breech out didn't align them properly. The barrel and breech are not lined up, so I am dropping the price on this gun because it probably needs to be taken apart and reassembled before firing. I thought I had taken a pic of the misalignment, but I didn't save it. I will post a pic tonight when I get home.

Sorry. Here are the pics.
You realize special tools are required ,without you leave more big gouges ! And when I tell you you need the proper tools you better have a long bar/pipe and some will power or leave it to someone that does (been there /done that ). I do it now cause I have the tools /experience and nope don't do it other than my own (liability ) and too much effort /Ed

just needs to be tightened up the rest of the way guys. I've had them look like that, crapped my pants, took it out, cleaned it, lubed it and still wasnt lined up. Just needed a little muscle to snug it up and it was perfect. This style of breech plug is no big deal to remove. Its the CVA/Traditions/Pedersoli guns that are a headache.

I'll take it as per pm sent. Looks like a fun project for me.

Nightwolf, to answer your question, it won't blow up. It has enough thread engagement that you could use it that way. the problem that I see (other than cosmetics) is the nipple alignment under the hammer. It needs to provide a flat impact to avoid peening and to give reliable cap ignition. Frontier's response is quite correct a little more muscle and of course proper tooling should do the trick.

That rifle is the original Lyman Plains Rifle. I had one in 1977. Mine was a kit. It shot fine, but later I sold it to finance a flintlock kit. Lyman came out with the Great Plains Rifle a few years later.
Whoever removed the breech plug, probably didn't have a big enough cheater to snug the plug.
