Mad Irish Jack reminded me that football season has begun and suggested we have a match in the spirit of the game. So it's time to kick some field goals!

The target is an 8.5" x 11" sheet of standard sized typing/printer paper with a "goal post" drawn on it. The horizontal beam of the "post" is to be 5" down from the top edge of the paper, and 5" long centered between the sides of the paper. The uprights go straight up from the ends of the horizontal beam 5" to the top edge of the paper.
In other words, a 5" square at the top of your target.

Post your target at 50 yards.

Take 5 shots at your target. The object is to place your shots as close as possible to the center between the goal posts.

Each shot will be measured horizontally from a vertical line centered between the goal post uprights to the center of the bullet hole. Vertical does not matter so long as the shot is above the horizontal beam and below the top of the paper.
Any shot that cuts a line or the top edge will be disqualified and counts as a miss.

Take only 5 shots. No do overs. A miss is a miss.

Targets with less than 5 holes due to a miss (or more) will be scored in separate categories.

    One target entry per member.

5 shots per target, hit or miss.

Mutilated targets and targets with more than 5 holes (or less than one hole) will be disqualified.

    No do-overs.

Only registered forum members may participate.

Only traditional, open iron sighted muzzleloading firearms (NO Cannons). Percussion or flintlock ignition.

Single patched round ball only. No restrictions on caliber. (a patchless ball may be used if so desired)

Shots may be taken, standing or seated, from a semi-rested position. The forestock or barrel may be rested but the buttstock must be supported only by the shooters shoulder.
    NO ELBOW RESTING!

Only original targets will be accepted. No copies, faxes, scans, etc.

The score of the target will be determined by the judge.

    Judges decisions are final.

Each contestant's score will be posted at the end of the contest.

Your member screen name must be written on your targets.

    Mail your target postmarked by September 30, 2015 to;

    Jim Green
    P.O.Box 322
    Pekin, IL 61555

Targets will not be returned unless an S.A.S.E. is included.

Be safe and have fun! :hatsoff:

I'm assuming this means no peep sights?

A nice little group to the right. 1 on the line & 1 nicked the top for a grand total of zero. I guess a 50 yd field goal is just outside my range :(

It will be easy to mark.

Sounds like you are improving tho.
Keep at it, you'll be in the Super Bowl soon.

It's a fact that shooting muzzleloaders, and shooting these contest does make you a better shot overall.

Well I drew up my target but never shot it as I have been out in the wilds of Vermont again. Got back Yesterday with good intentions to shoot it but it has been pouring ever since. Clear tomorrow morning so if you and the rest of the shooters are OK with it I will shoot it tomorrow and mail it tomorrow. Only one day late (I won't mention anything about lateness by the judge!!! :rotf: )Will that be OK???

    Thanks.

    Dave

Let's leave it up to the other participants. If nobody else has any complaints it's OK with me.
I'll probably be late with the results anyway 'cause I'm leaving for a rendezvous in TN next Wednesday and won't be home until Sunday night. Won't make it to the P.O. to pick up stragglers targets until at least Monday, maybe Tuesday.
No gettin' antsy, you've been informed. :haha:

I got mine done in the mist of mid-day western PA Mtns on the last day afternoon. Well just outside Pittsburgh PA anyways. :v I got a nice 4 shot bunched just left o' center. And I tried aimin on the right edge o' that group, hoping to get the center area. Lucky, I just kept it in the scoring area on the right side. :headslap: I dropped it in the mail on my way to let the medical folk take a sampling of my life fluids for a set o' three Doc's. I'm just hoping they ain't named Moe, Lawrence and Curly Joe :idunno: . That's Dr Fine, Dr Fine and Dr Fine. :shake: They're all Fine Doctors. :slap: Those of y'all born afore 1952 may know these Fine medical brainiacs. The rest o'ya gonna hafta Find you're own med team. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: PEE ESS; Fine by me t' allow another shooter inta the frey. Longens he hasta fetch up the same fees we did. Only Fair! :headslap: :slap: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

"I did hit the paper all 5 times though."

So did I Dave, but only 2 were within the uprights! I sent it back to Jethro with my new moniker, "Maven the Blind." :haha: Actually, I had problems with the rifle shooting too low and will have to file the front sight or maybe even replace it to correct that problem.
