Very interesting read in the gun description:

Apart from the usual nonsense about Whitworth accuracy - the Whitworth did not have "a 12' group at 1,800 yards". The Figure of Merit was 12', which is a mean radial distance of the shots from the centre of the group. The group was more likely in the order of 40 feet. See - Measuring Accuracy.

We've had record of this rifle in the Whitworth Research Project for two and a half years or so, when it surfaced.
