Here is what could be called a typical English belt pistol. Maybe about 1845-60. It's nicely silver mounted and engraved, but not overly done. It has a hook-breach barrel and is about .40 caliber with 7-groove rifling. Top of the barrel marked "London". No other markings or stamps. Still shoots a .390 ball with 15-grains of FFFG and 10 thousands patch good at 15-yards. Haven't tried it any further. The checkering on the grip shows wear. But fortunately, who ever owned it kept the bore clean. Even the percussion pathway from the nipple through the breech was clean. Not even light rust. I believe the belt hook was a period later addition since the engraving doesn't match the rest of the gun. Silver butt cap to hold extra caps. Just a neat, typical period English pistol that still works and shoots accurate. Fun stuff.
