I can tell you this much about E.G. Smith knives, to the limit of knowledge. The knives in the photos were purchase from E.G. at the Western Rendezvous in 1979. I bought these two knives a a group of others. He forged the knives from pre 1950 automobile leaf springs, and made the sheaths. About ten years later I wanted to purchase a group of knives. I talked to the owner of the Flathead Trading Post, who was a friend of E.G. He said that E.G. had quit making the Hudson Bay style camp knives and had moved onto making bowie knives. He made the camp knives for spending money while he worked as ferrier. I was told that once he started making bowie's he stopped making camp knives.. Years later I found out that he stopped making knives all together due to his health. He passed somewhere around 2000.
To my knowledge he never signed his camp knives. He owned or had access to an original that he copied. The knives I have are closely modeled after that knife. He was proud of the fact that his camp knives were practically in distinguishable from the original.
Looking again at your photos, perhaps the sheath was not his, but it may be, as the sheaths I have use a leather strip to prevent the knife from cutting the binding. Your sheath could be an improvement.. As to the knife, based on the bolster shape, the shape of the handle, the shape of the blade, I don't think it is one of his. He also used a tapered tang. I will also say that the group I sold were nearly identical to the two in the photo.
Well that is all I have. I hope this helps.
