In support of kit guns, here are some pics of a 1981 T/C .54 Hawken that I purchased (I was not the original builder). I think it is fabulously done.

Nice job on the Renegade! Beautiful rifle!I found a TC Renegade 50cal kit last year. My buddy had it and had started the woodwork. He really wanted something to hunt with at the time, so I had him pick out a rifle at the pawn shop for trade. He ended up with a really nice factory TC Hawken QLR that I don’t believe had ever been shot. I finished this kit and had it sighted in just in time for muzzleloader cow elk season in early December. With only 6 dayys in this season and having to be within a mile of private land, I was not successful, but I sure had a good time.
Anyway, I browned all the hardware and the barrel and plan on keeping this until I’m too old to shoot it, then it will go to the kids. So far, the TC maxi ball and maxi-hunter were terrible in the Renegade. The best was a 1 inch group with a REAL bullet, but this is on the light side for elk IMO. After reading Idaho Lewis’ comments, I will try a felt over powder wad and the Hornady Great Plains bullets.
-side note, I did get my first muzzleloader harvest last year. Harvested a Whitetail doe with my Lyman Great Plains 50 in late November. Patch and ball sure is fun, and it’s deadly on deer. I’m definitely hooked on these sidelock rifles.
