these are rendezvous leather trousers ive used since the 1980s. they had a goofy fly front that never was quite rite. I'm converting them to drop front. I'm almost to the button hole stage.
these are not fancy intown duds, more like bush wear, what would be proper for buttons, wood, antler, pewter? two hole buttons or 4 hole buttons ?

    Pewter.
Never those crappy antler buttons made from a slice of horn - no such thing in the period. I question whether wood buttons were used or even existed (wood cores were used as covered buttons or for thread buttons).

I use 2 on the waistband and 2 buttons for the flap with a 3rd buttonhole in the center that buttons to the lower of the waistband buttons.

Back in the mid 80's, my first pair of buckskin drop front trousers, at first only had one button on each side of flap and in use, that quickly got changed to adding another button in the center as Black Hand's Trousers are. That is excellent design to have the center button for the flap also be the lower of the two center waist buttons.

Also strongly agree with pewter for the buttons. :)

    I have pewter buttons ordered.
I stitched the button holes. But I guess I have to do one more as I didn’t put one in the centre of the flap.
    Thanks for the help
