Regret ,our local Beagle pack has just dis-banded.Too many motorways, main roads and far too many anties. The same area Fox hounds have been dispersed to other packs for the same reason.. Still have the Mink(Otter) hounds in the water.Plenty of Otters but hunting is agin the law..Bit hard on our Trout population !! After a life time of Labs. they are all gone. Had my own line for 45 years.Hence the GREENSWYLDE name. When I had litters of pups I used to feed onmass. Had a tin tray and a spoon, Later a blank pistol at a distance getting closer.Never had a Gunshy dog or gripe.. OLDDOG..

Couldn’t imagine hunting upland birds without a good dog. Five dogs over 50 years, my current bird hunting partner, “Buck”. At 18 months.

It is time for a musical interlude in this thread. It would not be appropriate without a song about a famous hunting dog.

Duffy, my Airedale, loves the walk but isn't so sure about the "POW". Surprisingly he's untrained (my fault) but has a natural knack for a pointer. Being a large terrier I figured he'd be more a sight-seek-and-destroy . . . which he is for chipmunks and rabbits but holds for birds. More or less. If they flush: Oh yeah, it's on.

I have a mtn Feist I squirrel hunt she is three years old . I hunt with a Pedersoli dbl barrel or a 58 cal Kibler smooth rifle

Do not know how to post pics. but GUNNER is a 19 month old English black lab. He is my buddy, I do not hunt him as a matter of fact he is laying beside me right now, I only bird hunt once or twice a year and they are canned preserve quail hunts. I totally enjoy watching the short hairs work the field better than the gunning. My hunting partners think it is crazy not to hunt him but he was purchased from a excellent breeder in Va. for a pet. He is the second Lab we have that shared our life, Jake was the first big American breed lab he did not know he was a dog. We also had a Old English sheep dog for 14 years great pooch and a lot of lessons were learned from him definitely a wolf in sheep's clothing. Life is not worth living if you do not share it with a dog.

I figgered it out. This is Junnie she is a Three year old mtn Feist

We had a seven pound poodle that retained her hunter instinct. If you grabbed a gun she beat you to the door. She was in heaven with quail. even going on point occasionally. She retrieved well. However, he could not carry pheasant or sage grouse. That was really irritating to her. She even attempted to take my fish off the fly, in the water, when we went fly fishing. She went blind and deaf at 17 years of age. We honored her in her death, wept as we buried her by a river she loved. Gotta quit . can't se through the tears now. Polecat

This is what it looks like when an old bird dog gets a new chew toy and decides to bury it in Momma’s little tomato garden. Lucky for him crop already harvested...
