I also have the same gun, but with both a flintlock & a percussion lock that are interchangeable. many years ago you could order them in either or with both locks. I chose to go for both, and never looked back. i have had many offers for it because of the interchangeability. not happening any time soon, I'M 76 and have had it for many moons. don't shoot it any more just take it out and take a time trip, and put it back.

what is that quarter size hole or cutout in the butt stock?
also, is the stock repair in any way visible, and if so; perhaps a photo could be provided?

Hole in butt is the tallow hole. In all the Dixie mountain guns. A tallow hole is a southern poor boy rifle feature used in original guns. Thanks. Rick

Great guns. I have one in 50 cal, and it is very accurate but heavy. I put an L&R RPL lock on mine to improve sparking, and it worked. But the lock plate is slightly undersized, so I mixed up some tinted Accraglass to fill the gaps.
