For this month I wanted to go with something Christmas like, but not the usual tree shoot.

So I found this:
http://targets.s3.amazonaws.com/PDF/Targets_NSSF_Christmas.pdf

The scoring will NOT be as it shows on the target. Instead the small boxes are worth five points, the large boxes are worth one point.

Fire 5 shots only, misses count!

The shooting distance for this contest is 25 yards.

No do-over’s.

Only registered forum members may participate.

Only traditional, open iron sighted muzzle loading firearms; peeps are allowed under the condition you mark your target so I know you used a peep. (Tracking it)(NO Cannons) . Percussion or flintlock ignition. Cap and Ball revolvers are OK.

Single patched round ball only. No restrictions on caliber. (a patchless ball may be used if so desired)

Shots will be taken off-hand at the stated distance. Standing or seated is allowed, elbows unsupported by anything other than the shooters torso. In the event that a member is not physically able to hold his rifle up unsupported, a "prop-rod" that is supported only by the shooters torso, no part of which prop-rod may touch the ground, may be used to hold up the fore-end of the rifle.

Only original targets will be accepted. No copies, faxes, scan, etc.
*New Rule!!**
Overseas participants may scan and e-mail me the target at
[email protected]. As long as I can CLEARLY make the target out I'll accept it.** (I recommend using a dark backing paper when you scan / copy it if possible so that the holes show clearly)
**Currently this will only apply to target shoots that I don't have to measure with a ruler. Unfortunately I do not have a printer to print them out with.**

Mutilated targets, or targets with more than 5 holes will be disqualified.

The center of the shot and the placement on the target will be determined by the judge.

Judges decisions are final.

Each contestant's score will be posted at the end of the contest.

Your member screen name must be written on your targets.

As stated above if you use peep sights that too must be marked on your target. (Pretty Please!)

That looks like a tough target, I will try to get to the range and shoot it. Just to clarify the 3 boxes at the top are the 5 point targets, right.................watch yer top knot..............

Hey, Terry,

Had a perfect day to shoot and tried to unwrap some of the gift boxes. But I left all the ribbons and wrapping paper intact. :( So I won't send this month's target to you.

Honest, this is not pointing any fingers at the Plains 50cal pistol. I simply was distracted by a problem that cropped up. The wedge that holds the barrel in place at the center of the stock kept on popping loose and wasn't holding the barrel very tight on one side. This is the pre-owned pistol I recently got, and have had some challenge in removing/replacing it to clean the barrel. Today it never fully came out but I kept on having to push it back in after each shot. Concentrated too much on that and not at aiming well. I'll probably shoot my Trapper instead next go-around.

However, I keep on learning what I need to do to improve. I mounted the target on a 17" wide white board. Since I have a tendency to shoot wide to left, try to keep track of myself. I did have one POI 6" directly left of the top gift box, and the other POI 8" directly left of the center smaller box. My elevation continues to be good, but would like to eliminate being consistent in shooting wide left. At least to lessen the inches to the bull and get on target!

It was fun as usual; I'm enjoying the challenge. Only would have liked to have something better to enter with. Looking forward to January of the new year to try again! Thanks much for your work bringing these contests together. :thumb:

Well, I was able to get out and shoot today, didn't try for the small boxes at the top I thought it best to stay within my abilities. Be sending my target in tomorrows mail............watch yer top knot.............

It's been cold and snowy in these parts lately, but that's not the main problem. To wit, our range is still closed for deer season, but it reopens this weekend. I hope to shoot [at] those gift boxes in the near future.

The weather cooperated today and I was able to shoot my target. Wasn’t the best, but at least it has 5 holes in the paper. Put it in the snail mail today.

Got mine shot and will be in the mail tomorrow. Hopefully USPS doesn't lose it this time.

I took out my 36 flinter that I have been working on to get good groups and sights regulated. I didn't think I would shoot too bad. I was wrong. I'm debating on whether to spend the postage to send in a one pointer.
