Wanting to know are the grooves on the cylinder pin on a bp revolver there to give the wedge something to grip onto or are they there for a different reason ?

I meant to say to give grease for the cylinder something to grip onto,not wedge
The grooves are there for some grease and to capture fouling. The grooves also mean less surface on the arbor is riding against the cylinder and the cylinder will spin easier.

The arbor grooves are for lube and a space for fouling.
