Getting set to make some powder spouts out of brass piping. Couldn't quite gauge the threads on those I have. Anyone know?

The flask takes my 3/8-24 tap, but the spout doesn't seem to like the corresponding die.

I believe that the threads are metric. You want the 10 x 1.0. (This is very close to 3/8 x24.)
You are correct Grenadier1758 - they are metric. They are either an 8 mm or a 9mm diameter but I don't know the pitch. I was going to make up some myself but then I did not want to spend the money for a die that will be used for only a few times - not worth my time or money as I have other flasks & spouts. :v

After measuring 6 different Italian powder measure spouts I come to several conclusions.

Quality Control is a term that hasn't invaded the Italian powder measure spout industry in Italy. (In all fairness, one of the spouts was made in Spain.)

The thread size for these spouts is a M10-1.0mm size.

The male threads measured from .376 to .392 in diameter.
The pitch came close but did not match a 24 thread/inch thread guage.

If someone was desperate and needed to thread something that could be used for a powder measure spout, they could use a 3/8-24 UNF die. The threaded part would screw into the M10-1 hole good enough for powder spout purposes.

I would never suggest using a 3/8-24 thread for a metric M10-1 mm hole for something that actually needs to have strength like something that screws into the bore of a rifle barrel though.

The usual size for Italian flasks is 10 X 1.0 mm with the pocket flasks taking a spout with 8 X .75 mm threads. The cylindrical CVA flak I have has the 10 mm threads. The spouts are cheap enough that I wouldn't bother making them myself and they can be cut down to throw any charge.

I just knew it was going to come back to me. No I don't load from a flask but I have some in cased sets and the CVA was given to me half full of Pyrodex which I won't use either.
