A Father's Day many moons ago, we bought dad a CVA flintlock pistol 44 caliber. For this Fathers Day, we planned to get together this Friday and shoot it.

I'm sorry, but that's about all I know about the gun.

Can anyone suggest to me a starting powder charge, and tell me if you have to have flash powder in teh frizzen, or can you substitute 3F / 4F?

Thanx.

Garandman, try a .433 ball with an .012 - .015 thick patch. Twenty to 25 grains of 3fg real black powder is a good starting load. 4fg is usually used in the pan but if 3fg is all you have it will work just fine for you.

Good luck and have fun.
