Every one is a free moral agent. I am sure we all have said things that we would have been better off not saying? I am not whining, preaching or telling anyone what to say. Do as you please and don't worry about offending anyone if you think it is the right thing to do?

I'm guessing common language and what was considered cussing, swearing, profane, etc changes quite a bit between 1750-1850. But in the book Wah-to-yah and the taos trail, Lewis Garrard, the author, mentions many times how the Canadians would "ejaculate sacrés" and the Americans would cuss or swear. I can't remember the exact term he used for what the Americans said due to reading it late at night and being half asleep, but in the time period of 1846 those men certainly did have special words to exclaim at certain times that apparently wouldn't be acceptable in "civilization"

I learned most of my cussing and raw language when I was 14, on my dad's asphalt crew. He was determined I develop a strong work ethic early. The collateral was great muscles for football, a nasty mouth that had to be toned down around the women folk, and steady purchases of new blue jeans and work boots. I was mildly amused when I joined the Marine Corps, the language got better.

At my age, I just want to avoid the occasion where I would be using the commonest of "F" words like a comma, and have John say, "That's my grandpa!"

Cursing is an attempt of a weak and feeble mind to express itself forcefully! Nothing degrades a person more than the use of foul language.
I would have to disagree with that. Its cultural. Many different subcultures use "cursing" as common speech terms. Sailors for example. Its part of their sub culture. Now the sole exception may be children.. shrug. Ive associated with many different groups of people, some being very hoity toity.. others pure salt of the earth types who curse to varying degrees. I actualy prefer the salt of the earth types, because they will let you know exactly what they think about something, unlike the hoity toity types .. who leave you guessing.

Serving in the Canadian army in the mid 70s to the 90s, cussing is just a part of military jargon. I’m not saying it’s right, it’s just the way soldiers tend to express themselves.
