Sometimes, it's hard to figure out measures or portions. :hmm: Here's a handy chart I use with the scouts:

MEASUREMENT CONVERSIONS

1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons
2 tablespoons = 1 ounce
¼ cup = 4 tablespoons
1/3 cup = 5 1/3 tablespoons
½ cup = 8 tablespoons
1 cup = 8 ounces
1 quart = 4 cups
1 gallon = 4 quarts
2 cups = 1 pint
1 stick butter = ¼ pound or ½ cup or 8 tablespoons
1 pound bread loaf = about 17 slices
1¼ pound loaf = about 20 slices
1½ pound loaf = about 23 slices

Here are handy sustitutes for when you run out of a certain ingredient:

SUBSTITUTIONS

1 cup milk = ½ cup evaporated milk + ½ cup water
1 cup reconstituted dry milk + 2 teaspoons margarine or butter
1 cup buttermilk = 1 tablespoon vinegar + 1 cup sweet milk or ¼ cup butter + ¾ cup milk
1½ teaspoons cornstarch = 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
1 cup honey = 1¼ cup sugar + ¼ cup water or other liquid

Anyone else have any handy tips??

:v

I measure liquids by the number of glugs from the jug, and solids are measured by the handsful. Will that work too?
