I am letting you know that I will start deleting snippy comments, and critical comments, and all that are not pertaining to the purchase of an item listed. And I'm asking the mods to do the same.

The members listing do not need your critique of their items, but questions pertaining to the possible purchase of that item will always be welcome.

There are a few critiquing the listings. This is the warning to stop or loose the ability to post in those areas for a while. And there will not be a PM sent when one is deleted.

I wanted to let the membership know before I and the mods start doing the deleting.
We will be adding a rule to the Classified Rules as soon as we make the wording nice.

Yes, thank you. Now I can sell my stainless steel, micarta handled, Bowie knife, with naugahide covered sheath (made from a genuine Nauga that Jim Bridger might have killed), and not be questioned or challenged as to its correctness to the period in question.

Seriously, I agree that the discussion that prompted this rule was not in the best of taste. At the same time, the posting of items for sale that are not within the time period of this forum, or that have unprovable claims attached to them also should not be. I can by a modern Bush craft knife, or old timey widget anywhere. I look to our classifieds in hopes of finding items that fit my time period and my budget.

If people don't comment and don't buy them, they will go away. And if you're that concerned you can always do a report of the post and list why you think it should not be allowed. I doubt that you'll be agreed with 100% of the time, but probably a good bit of the time and that will go away.

Shouldn't the burden be upon those making claims?

The burden is for those that are not buying to keep their nose out of it.

I gotta say I hate that classified adds show up in my "new posts" sidebar feed and are not marked as classified adds. I find myself clicking on them thinking they are a topic for discussion.
If I want to buy something, I know where to look, I don't need to be tricked into reading them.
So if I accidentally comment on one, now you know why.

If someone clicks on a "new post" and thinks they ended up in the Classified Ad section, all they have to do is to look at the post number over on the right side of the page and remember it for a few seconds while they scroll up to the top of the page. (This is post # 9 in this topic).
If it is an Ad, there will be a banner saying FOR SALE, or WANTED or something similar. If it doesn't have those banners, then scroll back down to the post number you just memorized and start reading and commenting.

    Have fun. :)

The ‘for sale’ items are clearly identified in my ‘new post’ side bar.

My apologies, but that is how ‘new posts’ appear on my phone. And they are clearly identified as ‘for sale’. Must have the ‘side bar’ option turned off.

Don’t sit in front of a PC all day waiting for posts that may interest me. Likely use my phone for over 90% of the time I am online. If it doesn’t appear on my phone screen, it doesn’t exist....

Right, and if it is a 2nd or 3 rd reply it automatically goes to that post, bypassing the classified header. So it can get confusing at times.
I like the side bar, just wish there was a way to silence the classified adds.

It's not a big deal, just identifying one of the many quirks with the forum software.
