It may be a historic myth, but the Chestertown Tea Party Festival is real, and it's this weekend.
On Saturday, May 27th at 14:00 the rebellious mob will descend on the ship, The Sultana, and will seize the cargo of tea, and toss it overboard,
BUT, only after His Royal Britannic Majesty's valiant soldiers give them many volleys of hot lead!

Hey it's Memorial Day weekend, there is an arts and crafts festival, lots of libations, and some blanks are fired too... it's on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, so the seafood is good there too, as well as other food vendors.

So come and have some fun.

Are the guns the reenactors use capable of firing lead ball? And what do they load them up with for the reenactment? Will a muzzle loader go “BOOM” if it doesn’t have a ball to push against?
-Red, just wondering…

Yeah they do work, but Nah no musket balls, as the local police get all official-like if we actually shoot up the town and the tourists. Puts a real dent in the weekend's proceeds for the town, ya know what I mean? Ruins "the festive atmosphere"....

We use 100 grains of 3Fg black powder, without a wad. Makes plenty of pop and smoke. You will notice that the muskets when firing are not "level" and that's because out of the frame on the right hand side of the photo, the tourists have gotten too close for us to be safe if we fired "level".

I figured you didn’t use a ball for the reenactment. That would really ratchet up the excitement level, wouldn’t it? LOL!
I was just wondering if they were capable of it. And wasn’t sure if they would go boom if they didn’t build any pressure.
Thanks for the response. Enjoy the Tea Party!
