If you have been following the Roman candle handgonne experiment on capandball.com, like me, you probably found it very interesting. I have been shooting .715" 550gr rbs in my .75" bored gonne using 45gr FF and coffee filters on both sides of the ball. It works well for me. I watched the c&b videos on Patreon and thought I'd do an experiment. I used an 18mm twist drillbit to bore a mold from hardwood. The cylindrical slugs cast from the thick oak board were much too heavy (970-1032 gr) and really, really hard to get out of the mold. I next used thinner soft wood and didn't drill through. I drilled five holes at one depth and five more at another depth and ended up with medieval Foster slugs that weigh an average of 400gr for the first group and 450gr for the second. Hopefully I'll get to the range tomorrow to try them out. I'm really not into casting, but those .715s are expensive and old Drachenfeuer isn't to picky about what he's fed.
