Casting Flaw?

This is an “interesting” thing my bore scope revealed on a recent acquisition. For context it is a .45 Jukar flintlock, so not a high dollar item.

This appears to me to be a casting flaw in the breech plug. o other more learned folks agree?

If so, is it repairable (e.g., welding, etc.) or if not, is it replaceable? The plug appears to me as though it unscrews (see photo), but I’m not sure if that was conmonly true on these so I thought I’d ask before getting out the big wrench.

If it is a caplock, it could be where the drum hole is drilled into the breech plug. Those guns had the drum screwed into the plug. Before you get out the big wrench, unscrew the drum. Get a breech plug brush and clean the gunk out to get a better look. Jukar may have also drilled the touch hole into the plug.

Thank you for the input, but it is a flintlock. In the photo above, you can see touchhole just past 12:00.

Clean it and leave it alone.

You could get a fouling scraper to try to remove some of whatever that is down there. Otherwise I wouldn't mess with it too much more than that.

Update: Thanks everyone for the input. I ended up curtailing this project. I purchased it from an online auction where it had been listed as a .54 caliber but turned out to be a .45. I knew that as soon as I received it of course, but figured being auction that there was little recourse and started giving it the once over when I saw the breech. In any event, when I told the auction house about their error, to my surprise they offered to take it back. Since I don’t have need of a .45, I took them up on the offer so I won’t need to delve any further into it. Thanks to all who shared their thoughts. I always learn a lot here, whether from my posts or others.
